Our Mission

To mature and transition advanced manufacturing processes that enable affordable, scalable, and sustainable Army capabilities – ensuring readiness, resilience, and strategic overmatch across the defense industrial base.

Who We Are

The Army Manufacturing Technology (ManTech) Program strengthens the industrial base by ensuring essential Army defense technologies are affordable, scalable, and sustainable. We invest in advanced manufacturing processes, materials innovation, and supply chain resilience to help mature manufacturing processes suitable for full-rate production – ensuring defense technologies can be produced effectively with long-term resilience.

How the Program Works

Project Criteria

Addresses an identified Army defense manufacturing requirement, manufacturing/producibility gap, or supply chain challenge, risk, or limitation with clear justification; presents an acquisition strategy that includes a realistic plan to implement the technology in the defense industrial base; identifies and addresses a documented requirement of a Portfolio Acquisition Executive (PAE) requirement; and demonstrates that the technology is mature to a Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) 4 prior to receiving Army ManTech funding.

Selection and Alignment

Uses a competitive process to identify manufacturing challenges tied to Army priorities and acquisition strategies, focusing on beneficial technologies that improve producibility, reduce cost, and/or enhance supply chain resilience.

Manufacturing Process Maturation

Advances promising processes through design refinement, pilot production, and manufacturing technology demonstrations to ensure readiness for scale-up and integration.

Pilot Production and Validation

Executes pilot runs and production demonstrations in relevant industrial environments to validate performance, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.

Evaluation

Conducts structured assessments of manufacturing readiness and establish transition pathways into Programs of Record or sustainment operations.

Transition Planning

Transitions matured manufacturing technologies into Army programs to support full-rate production, lifecycle sustainment, and industrial base modernization.

What We Do: Building Scalable Solutions for Army Readiness

01

Process-Centric Investment for Scalable Production

Army ManTech invests in maturing manufacturing processes, not prototypes or novel technologies, to bridge the gap between lab-scale innovation and full-rate production. Projects focus on scaling novel materials, automation techniques, and digital manufacturing workflows to meet Army cost and throughput targets.

02

Alignment with Acquisition and Sustainment Needs

Every Army ManTech effort is grounded in real-world production challenges tied to Army acquisition programs. Projects are selected based on their potential to reduce lifecycle costs, improve manufacturability, and enhance supply chain agility, especially for systems critical to Army modernization.

03

Engineering Collaboration Across the Enterprise

Army ManTech fosters deep collaboration between industry, Army engineers, and acquisition stakeholders to ensure manufacturing solutions are technically sound, producible, and transition-ready. This includes joint design-for-manufacture reviews, pilot line development, and integration with depot and Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) capabilities.

04

Structured Pathways to Production Transition

From day one, Army ManTech projects are built around transition. Each effort includes a manufacturing Transition Agreement, defined cost and production throughput targets, and coordination with PAEs, Capability Program Executives (CPE), Program Managers (PM), and sustainment commands to ensure readiness for insertion into Programs of Record or organic industrial facilities.

05

Industrial Base Modernization and Validation

Army ManTech supports the Army’s broader goal of transforming its industrial base. Projects include production demonstrations, cost modeling, and supply chain assessments to validate readiness for contested logistics environments. Success is measured not just in technical merit, but in scalable, affordable, and sustainable production outcomes.

Learn More about Army ManTech

We welcome manufacturers and industrial innovators committed to advancing scalable, cost-effective production solutions for the U.S. Army. Whether you’re refining advanced processes, exploring transition pathways, or aligning with Army modernization goals, our team is ready to engage, inform, and support.

While Army ManTech cannot accept project proposals directly from industry, Army ManTech can assist in connecting interested industry partners with the appropriate PEO/PM, laboratory, or technology center to discuss potential collaboration.
